McLean Historian and Author,
50th Anniversary Holiday HomesHonorary Chair
The Woman’s Club of McLean is delighted to have Carole Herrick as our Honorary Chairperson this year.
It is fitting that for our 50th Annual Tour we choose a person so connected to McLean, as she has so meticulously studied its history and written books about it. Carole’s book “August, 1814” chronicles Dolley Madison’s escape ahead of the invading British troops. Carole's latest book is “Hickory Hill: McLean, Virginia: A Biography of a House and Those Who Lived There”.
In acceptance of her role as Holiday Homes Honorary Chair, Carole commented:
“I can’t begin to describe how delighted I am to be the Honorary Chair of the Woman’s Club of McLean 50th Anniversary Holiday Homes Tour.
The Woman’s Club of McLean is one of the area’s oldest and most distinguished organizations. Its members, both past and present, have dedicated themselves to the betterment of McLean through their volunteerism and fundraising efforts. I marvel at the energy of these women.
The proceeds from the Holiday Homes Tours alone have enabled the club to donate over a million dollars towards the support of numerous community efforts which enhance and enrich our lives.
In addition to scholarships, a few of the organizations that have benefited from a half-century of Holiday Homes Tours include: The Wounded Warrior Program at Vinson Hall, Alternative House, Fisher House, Capital Hospice Share, McLean Community Center, McLean Symphony, McLean Orchestra, McLean Project for the Arts, McLean Volunteer Fire Department, Falls Church-McLean Children’s Center and Claude Moore Colonial Farm.
As always, the homes on display this year are fabulous. I am looking forward to visiting each one.
My thanks to the members of the Woman’s Club of McLean for the opportunity to be the Honorary Chair of this historic 50th Anniversary event.”
